Rolled Ball Screws
In the case of rolled ball screws, the particularly low-cost version, the thread is produced by rolling without cutting. Due to the material compaction, a good surface of the ball raceways is obtained with an uninterrupted grain flow of the microstructure. A disadvantage, however, is the lower lead accuracy and the associated play of the ball screw. In addition, increased effort is required for end machining, since the outside diameter is not exactly defined due to the material throw-up during rolling.
