Lead Screws

A ball screw is a machine element in which a shaft is provided with an external thread. This can be a simple screw thread, a trapezoidal thread or a round thread, which is introduced by rolling, whirling or grinding. In combination with a nut with the same negative thread profile, the result is a ball screw unit that converts a rotational movement of the screw into a linear feed movement of the nut.

A special form is the ball screw, in which the thread profile serves as a raceway for balls, which are located as a rolling element between the screw and nut to provide particularly smooth running and thus a high degree of efficiency in the conversion of the rotary into a linear movement.
